For those users that want to standardize or change their COA structure,
we have a tool called Account Conversion Tool (ACT), that allows you to
restructure your account numbers (Code) through a set of rules. Once the
rules are established, the tool will go through your complete Mapics
data base and replace the old codes with the new account codes, This
includes combining old accounts into one new account, combining balances
of the old accounts.

Bonnie, MAPICS II had a seven-digit numeric account code. This code was
expanded to fifteen digits in MAPICS/DB Release 2 and changed to fifteen
characters in MAPICS XA Release 3 (1992)

Both ControllerVision and FRx allow you to parse the account code to fit
your needs. You can also have AS/400 queries that split the account code
into components. For example, suppose you use seven characters of the
account -- first four characters are the Account and the last three are
the
department.
The following AS/400 query calculations will split the account code into
its
components:

ACCT = Substr(GLANO, 1, 4)
DEPT = Substr (GLANO, 5,3)

One last point. If you are going to split your account code it really
pays
to use the same positions within the account to represent account
components
throughout your COA. For example, suppose you use a six-character
account
for your balance sheet accounts and a four-character account for profit
and
loss accounts. If you use departments with profit and loss accounts, you
should enter the department number in position seven -- not position
five.
