Rick It sound like you have one of the older style MAPICS contracts based on AS/400 processor tiers. This loosely equates to your statement about "related to the speed of the processor/AS400". So if you change your AS/400 to one in a higher tier then you will have to pay money to MAPICS. Some customers see this as paying money for nothing but of course they paid less for MAPICS the first time round. New MAPICS customers would not be offered this style of contract. Today, customers have user based contracts. This means they only pay more for existing function when they increase the number of users on the system. Frankly this appears more logical and acceptable. As an existing customer you can choose to change from "tier based" to "user based" at the time you change your processor. You might want to roll in some Client/Server functionality as part of the deal. You may end up paying the same amount of money but you will get improved function, happier users, AND remove the "tier based" issues forever. You need to talk with your MAPICS affiliate.
