Tried to change the warehouse on the CM and it still shows in Item
Availability.  Not sure if that's because we did a change instead of using
the warehouse on the entry.

Lisa,
If it is not an allowance and you want the item back, even if just for
failure analysis, create a return warehouse and write the credit to that
warehouse.  If, after inspection, you decide that the returned item is
useable, do a TW into your shipping warehouse.
