Environment: Mapics DB/Y2K (Mod 4) Inventory Management (IM) Hi Mapics ML: In looking at the way Mapics handles cycle counting, I wondering if it's possible to select periodic cycle counting based on other criteria, such as: 1. We have about 5,000 active items in our inventory. Is it possible to select, say 20 to 40 of them, randomly, on a daily basis so that during our fiscal year, each active item in our inventory will be cycle counted approximately twice before the fiscal year end inventory? 2. Suggesting another selection method, is it possible to stratify the selection so that only large dollar amounts (computed based on Mapics perpetual inventory quantity on-hand at Standard unit costs) are sampled for daily cycle counting. Using this method would eliminate the cycle counting of less important dollar items in our inventory but it would give us confidence that the more expensive items were cycle counted appropriately during the fiscal year. So there you have it: the first method counts everything twice during the fiscal year while the second method concentrates only on expensive dollar items. Is it posslble to modify the Mapics counting methods (Transaction activity; Time basis using cycle count codes; and Forced cycle count) to somehow incorporate the criteria I have suggested above? If not, are there third party software programs available that provide this type of flexability? I look forward to hearing from you at your convenience.
