Title: RE: Data Collection Terminals

We are in a unique situation here as we currently use the HighJump (DSCI) solution for it's RF and distributed label printing features, and PaperLess (PLM&C) for it's direct labor reporting features. I would be happy to discuss the pros/cons of each of these packages with anyone that would like to.

Let me add my 2-cents worth for PaperLess. We are on XA4 and OS400 v4r2,
also. We have PLMC and are using "cheap" PCs with (expensive) touchscreens
on the shop floor. (Plus, <satisfied customer plug> we put the PCs and
monitors in environmental boxes from Envirosafe Technologies, Jacksonville,
Fl 32246, http://www.dustshield.com/intro.htm)

They have worked very well for us. I'm not sure how many employees use the
touch screens and how many go ahead and use the keyboard and mouse (we have
both on each PC) to justify the additional expense of the touch screen
technology.

PLMC is now owned by, and you purchase it from, MAPICS. It has three
modules, MDCC (ISE's old "PaperLess" - data collection on shop floor), TMPS
(ISE's tool tracking), and QRMS(ISE's quality management). We bought the
first two modules from ISE when they still owned it, and <gripe> I am not
pleased with the price MAPICS is wanting to charge us to purchase the last
third!

Since March 1, 2000, we have collected our T&A for all hourly employees
using PLMC/MDCC; we have been adding Job On/Off by department since then
(almost finished). By the way, the biggest problems we have had is not with
the PaperLess product, but with the limitations in XA4's PMC module (which
you must have for any T&A and Job On/Off solution, not just PaperLess).
Out-of-shift problems have been the biggest issue - again in PMC, not PLMC.
I understand this particular issue is resolved in XA 6.0 (maybe in 5.5?).

Good luck with your selection process and implementation.

We are looking for some advise on data collection terminals and software
that can interface with Mapics/XA4 running on OS400 v4r2.  We need time &
attendance and job/labor tracking capabilities.  Any advise is appreciated.

Thanks.
