Subject: Why is WHSLC Found in Two Item Master Files?

Environment: Mapics DB or Y2K (Mod 4); IM, PDM & PC&C

Hi Mapics ML:

One of our new production control employees was using Inventory
Management's File Maintenance to change the Warehouse Stock Location Code
(WHSLC) for Item Numbers (due to a reorganization of our Stock Room) and he
asked me, "Why is the WHSLC field found in both the Item Balance (ITEMBL)
and Item Master A (ITEMASA) files?"

If a company has multiple warehouses, it can have independent WHSLC for a
given Item Number located within each separate warehouse. Also, Mapics
uses the WHSLC fom ITEMBL to report the Stock Location on the perpetual
inventory Transaction History Inquiry (AMIS15) screen.

But what does Mapics do with WHSLC in the ITEMASA file? In a single
warehouse situation, is there any problem when WHSLC is not the same (due
to an inputting error) in both ITEMBL and ITEMASA?

I look forward to your responces.

Regards....
