I don't think posts sent to owner-mapics-l@midrange.com get forwarded by the
server to the list, so I'm sending this on to everybody. If I'm wrong, this
will be the second copy of this that you'll see. My apologies if that's the
case.

Subject: COM Off-line Automated Shipping
Importance: High

On Tuesday 5, 2000, Steve Watson, of MAPICS, Inc. listed the Offline
Automated Shipping programs we have been working on to deliver in the 4th
Qtr2000. Following are some additional facts to help your readers
understand how MAPICS Off-line Automated Shipping programs can be used to
process shipments from other applications:

.) COM Off-line Automated Shipping programs were designed to work with the
application that the customer wants to interface with.
.) These new programs provide a more open database to allow customers to
interface the application of choice.
.) The programs do require data in the off-line shipping files. This data
is then used to create shipments within COM.
.) The user has the choice to run these programs "real" time or as a batch
job.
.) A shipment special charge can be created during the same process run
when creating a shipment. The same process run can update carrier
details, print Bills of Lading, print a Packing List, and submit invoices.
.) Shipping of consolidated Pick List is supported.
.) COM gives the user the capability to perform these tasks with one
transaction call.
.) Off-line shipping (one-off) is available today for Release 2 and 3.
.) The new programs (including the source) for Off-line Automated Shipping
on the Release 6.0 database will be available by next week. They cannot be
recompiled over a Release 5.0/5.5 database due to file changes in Release
6.0. The code is currently being manually transferred to the Release
5.0/5.5 code with a targeted available date by mid-October (or sooner).
.) These new programs become part of the base code that is included in your
annual ALF fees. Any changes made to the Shipping Process is therefore
included in the base code.

These additional facts help to clarify the commitment by MAPICS to provide
additional business value to our customers.
