Hello, all.

I have a situation that I am not sure how to address, and would love some
input. I am still trying to get a handle on how MAPICS handles some
situations.

Currently, I allocate items for an order when pick tickets are generated. I
run pick tickets the morning that a shipment is expected to ship using stock
pick. The thought of stock pick is that if you have unallocated product
available, it will allocate that item for this shipment. Normally, this
works perfectly.

The problem I am having is prioritizing releases. There are some orders that
I want to allocate items for. For example, if a customer needs 100 units
Friday, and I have 100 available on Wednesday, I don't want these items to
be shipped Thursday to another customer.

Like I said, I am allocating at pick time, not order entry time. Often I
don't purchase or produce product until after the order is placed, so if I
allocate at order entry, I will create negative allocations.

When I receive the product into inventory, is there a way to allocate the
items to a specific order automatically?

How are you handling this situation?

How many of you use stock pick? If you do, when do you allocate, and when do
you print the pick ticket?

Any ideas, help, or suggestions are appreciated.

Patrick
