Awhile ago I participated in an Internet-based presentation of the Browser product and had a more recent experience with an on-site demo. The application allows inquiry to all installed MAPICS modules with a much more up-to-date look than the previous Visual WorkPlace screen-overlays. Note the term 'inquiry'... transaction-entry and/or file maintenance are not allowed via the Browser interface unless the additional client-server 'Plus' modules are purchased. From my experience with the demo, a good deal of user-customization can be accomplished via the card-group management features. Also, direct export of MAPICS data to the clipboard for use in spreadsheets and/or documents can be very useful to end-users (and take alot of time-consuming requests for programming staff). Final comments... could be very good if users are pc-literate and regularly make the best use of the drill-down capabilities of MAPICS displays -or- regularly navigate through several modules; downside... additional investment for transaction/file maintenance capabilities. regards, Tom Ashworth MIS Manager, Altec Lansing Technologies Inc.
