Remember, a 1 Core Power 6 520 (4800 CPW) only has one core - from a
performance standpoint, it is easily outperformed by an i7-920 (200$),
which has four of these cores.

This is not Java's fault, nor is it the fault of the people that are
working on IBM i Java. This is purely the fault of IBM's executives.

I was at a Java performance talk where it was mentioned that the x86 processors are SO fast these days that hundreds of instructions can be done in the time it takes to get a single value from memory. Every time. Having more cores does not help this.

My personal opinion is that the Classic JVM performs quite fine when warmed up, but it takes aeons to get there, and that it is very sensitive to OS/400 resource allocations.
