Well, all I can tell you is that the Dell Wireless N chip that originally came in my Latitude D630 didn't work with Ubuntu 9.04 unless I used ndiswrapper.

The annoyance of that made me buy an intel wireless chip for the laptop.

Ditto for me in Fedora. All laptops we purchase now have the Intel chip instead of Dell chip.
