I don't know whether Xandros 4 is based on Debian sarge or etch, but you should be able to use one of the official Debian packages from http://packages.debian.org/tn5250 instead of the backported version on Sourceforge, or see below.

One side note is that in Version 4.0 of Xandros TN5250 is no longer listed as an app to install via CD or Xandros Networks (Xandros online Apps directory).

You may have to add the "Debian unsupported" application source to get it. Look for any web pages about installing Gnome applications on Xandros 4.
