Thanks, for now we just want to pass
IBMWSCSTNAME & IBMWSCSTLIB but I
thought I would set it up so user could pass
any variable, such a program, lib , passwd, whatever.

Hello Phillip,

I have concuded from James' tn5250 HOWTO,
that I can pass any env. variable to the
the AS400 via the .tn5250rc file.
Anything the AS400 understands,

True? More or less?

Yes, that's true -- and has been for a very long time now -- but you have to understand what it means by "env variable." They're TELNET environment variables, not part of your shell!

It's also possible to write an exit program on the iSeries that reads
those environment variables and does something with them when your 5250
client connects. There might be some interesting possibilities with that
-- though at the moment, I can't think of what they would be...
