Stan,
You may want to research the security protocols for the connection program
you are using. I use ppp at home through the Gnome interface that comes with
Red Hat 6.0. I also had to specify PAP security when the modem dials out to
my ISP (Bellatlantic). Also, have you gotten the domain name servers' IP
addresses from your ISP? If they aren't willing to give it to you, you can
get it from Windows 9x by running winipcfg from the start menu. You will
find entries in there for the domain name servers and their IP addresses.
Good luck and stick to it. I'm a fairly new user to Linux myself.

I am having problems getting connected to the Internet using
Linux 5.2. I can get my modem to dial, but once it connects
it
lasts about 3 seconds and then disconnects. Do I need to use
setserial to set the baud rate for the com port itself? I am
new
to Linux so I am not sure...I also want to try the tn5250
emulator
if I can ever get connected to download it...I am sure that
will
be a whole new set of problems...Thanks for any help you can

                give me.

                Stan
