Check your ~/.Xdefaults file to make sure that the line:

XTerm.VT100*underLine:  off

is commented out (put a ! in front of it). I use Mandrake so I don't know
if Redhat has this setting or not, but I'd give it a shot. This is good FAQ
material *wink*
