Different IBM i release has its different default JVM . You can reference
knowledge center for details. Here's the JVM list on i

FWIW (and Mr. Rowe's answer was a bit more in line with what I was

Initially, I get a response that tells me that Java 7 is the current
default JVM.

If I do the appropriate ADDENVVAR JAVA_HOME to the correct directory, I
