I ended up using apache httpd configured as a forward proxy with authentication.
My objective was to test an application that connects to the internet
using a proxy. I was hoping to find a simple, standalone, application
that acted as a proxy server.
I looked at the recommendations and determined that apache was my best
option because I'm very familiar with the apache config.
