so i won't compare rpg directly to java, but I will clarify, I'm looking
for good java references from an IBMi (developer) perspective.
I don't care to learn the framework off of an IBMi. My intention is to
only use it with IBMi architecture and have it compliment my current skill
set.

tutorials on the Web. Try https://www.learnjavaonline.org/ first.

Java is simpler than C++, bu up in that league. If you want to learn Java
from scratch, you'll invest a few hundred hours doing it.
