Hi Steve,

Thanks for the hint but just for the sake of argument, is there no way to get this done without any 3rd party tools? Like adjusting the printer attributes to duplex before printing and then changing it back?

Max,

I had a similar project. The problem you have is that Duplex is not a file attribute, it is a print attribute. Purchased this: https://www.pdf-tools.com/pdf20/en/products/pdf-rendering-desktop-tools/pdf-printer/. The "Service" version runs great. Then, you setup the rules on the PDF Server to have the service "monitor" a folder, apply the attributes (like print in duplex) and it routes it to the appropriate printer and prints as desired. A simple FTP of the PDF file from the IFS to the appropriate folder on the print server and it's on its way. Easy to setup and use, even better, very affordable. Our ROI was less that 4 months on the initial purchase and then less then 3 weeks for the ongoing maintenance costs compared against the user time (on our project) and the savings in paper. They have a great help support, as well, and will give you a 30-day license for to demo the software. Take a look. Is then also available for use by other areas of the company; another
great selling point.

Subject: Print PDF in duplex mode

Hi
I have a PDF document that is stored in the iSeries' IFS folder and want to print it using Java that is running in the iSeries' JVM. Just printing the PDF and sending it to the outqueue works perfectly fine but now I want to to print it in Duplex mode using

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
String outqueueName = "/QSYS.LIB/QUSRSYS.LIB/" + outqueue + ".OUTQ"; OutputQueue outputQueue = new OutputQueue(as400, outqueueName); parms.setParameter(PrintObject.ATTR_OUTPUT_QUEUE, outputQueue.getPath()); parms.setParameter(PrintObject.ATTR_HOLD, hold ? "*YES" : "*NO"); parms.setParameter(PrintObject.ATTR_SAVE, save ? "*YES" : "*NO"); parms.setParameter(PrintObject.ATTR_SPOOLFILE, ""); parms.setParameter(PrintObject.ATTR_DUPLEX, "*YES");

SpooledFileOutputStream outputStream = new SpooledFileOutputStream(as400, parms, null, null);
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

but it still just prints single page mode.
Does anyone have an idea what I am missing here?
