JTOpen allows a java program to call a service program, so if you have a
service program that can answer the query, you're set. Or you can look it
up in the database with either record access or SQL.

Do you want to "add" a new name? Or do you just want to read by name?

Reading by name can be simplified by using SQL

Subject: Java socket port lookup by name (WRKSRVTBLE)
Sent by: "JAVA400-L" <java400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx>

I would like to be able to specify a port number by name. WRKSRVTBLE lets
you add, delete or display port & protocols by a name. What API in the
JavaTool kit lets you perform this lookup?
