Actually, the docs describe the TEXT types as LONGVARCHAR types, which aren't constrained by normal VARCHAR length limitations.

The docs go on to say that GetColumnTypeName() on TEXT columns returns "VARCHAR," but GetColumnType() returns a value defined by the LONGVARCHAR named constant.

And so I'm in the process of front-ending GetColumnType().

And an issue is that I'm trying to blindly retrieve the length into a 5-digit packed decimal (in a standardized data structure that can't be changed), which doesn't exactly work well when you've got a length that runs 7+ digits.
