I was wondering if is possible to debug a Java application running on
an IBM i with RDi? Has anyone tried that?

Sure, since RDi is based on Eclipse, you get the full java toolset automatically.

All you have to do is start the Java application with the appropriate debugging options ... and then connect Eclipse to the running java code
