Justin,
Thanks for the hint on Windows Authentication - that's how my MS Sql Studio works
so I'll likely want to go that way . . .
As for errors, I currently see this in Last log entry(Entry type: ERROR)
Logged by net.sourceforge.squirrel_sql.client.Application at 11/22/13 8:34 AM:
java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError:
net/sourceforge/jtds/jdbc/Driver :
Unsupported major.minor version 51.0
Don't know what to do about that . . .

I use the jTDS drive on our Power7, but I've always used the MS driver for SQuirreL in order to use Windows Authentication. That being said, have you checked the Logs (on the bottom, 2nd button right of "Logs: Errors x, Warnings x, Infos x")?

Subject: problems attempting adding jTDS driver to Squirrel
I am following Dan Kimmel's suggestion to use the JTDS open-source-driver for connections to MS Sequel Server.
I think I got a good download of jTDS from Sourceforge
I think my extract was Ok, and I see a bunch of files and folders with same "Date Time mod" on my Win 7 laptop:
Files
CHANGELOG, jtds-1.3.1.jar, LICENSE, README, README.SSL
README.SSO, README.XA
Folders
x64
x86
Squirrel now runs very slowly and I can't select an SQL statement to run ??
the cursor, in Squirrel, seems un-responsive and will not allow a click on "run", etc
Have not yet been able to close Squirrel . . .
