To All:

Using a directory in a jar manifest file is not supported by Oracle nor
IBM. The only way to get it to work on the iSeries is to use the
endorsed.dirs property in an environment variable or the
systemDefault.properties file. Environment variables on the iSeries
need to be configured to work like AIX environment variables via the c
shell. So be aware of that.

The J9 JVMs call PASE to run the AIX JDK on the iSeries. This has led
to this specific problem. What is the easiest way to set up a Java
environment so that my Java program will run with its specific version
of apache axis and not have the CLASSPATH environment variable exceed
1024 characters? Everything over 1024 characters is cut off in the class
path.

Compared to RPG, Java is a royal PITA to configure and manage.
