I've used enterpriseDT edtFTPj free software
(http://www.enterprisedt.com/index.html). It doesn't support SSL out of the
box but it has methods that would make it easy to subclass some of their
classes and use SSL sockets instead of non-SSL sockets. It comes with java
source code and is licensed under the LGPL. They also have a version that
you can pay for that includes many flavors of secure FTP out of the box.
