You can SELECT [INTO] of or from, VALUES [INTO] of or from, or SET a variable from, any [current XXX] /special register/. There is nothing that is unique about the DB2 for System i SQL that I am aware of, with regard to these special registers. See the System i: DB2 for i SQL Reference for examples of the various statements, shown across the various registers:
