I'm in a bit of a quandary here ... I'm trying to figure out the best way to allow customers to specify which version of the JVM they want to use with a Java application on the i.
There are multiple JVM's available ... 64bit Classic, 32bit PASE, and 64bit PASE.
For the classic JVM, you can specify the java.version property in the System.properties, SystemDefault.properties file, or on the command line.
But with the PASE JVM's, the java version is specified using the JAVA_HOME environment variable.
Is it possible to have the JAVA_HOME environment variable set specifically at the user level?
I tried putting "export JAVA_HOME=/QIBM/ProdData/Java400/jdk15" in the users .profile file, which was picked up in qshell, but not in a direct JAVA invocation.
I also tried putting 'java.home=/QOpenSys/QIBM/ProdData/JavaVM/jdk50/32bit' in the users SystemDefault.properties file, but got either errors or the value was ignored (different behavior for different OS versions).
Any thoughts?
