I have also never done this, but I do think you might need a return type.

Here is a quote from the DB2 docs about Java routines. It might also have to
be a static method.
return-type The data type of the value to be returned by the scalar routine.
Inside the routine, the return value is passed back to the invoker through a
return statement.

set using the set method and the 3rd parameter is unique to the db2general
calling convention.
