Tomcat is free. WebSphere web-container has to be licensed separately,
doesn't it?

1. Tomcat 5.5.15 Installer for iSeries (richard@xxxxxxxxxxx)

Good that Tomcat works on i-series. But, why would I use Tomcat when
Websphere comes with i-series? Websphere web-container should do all
that Tomcat does.

Am I missing something?

Since RJS is using Tomcat as the Java servlet engine of choice for our
cross platform applications, we needed to make its installation and
deployment easier for our customers and support technicians.

Since Apache Tomcat is Open Source we have also decided to make our
installer contribution open source by sharing our easy Tomcat install
process with other iSeries professionals interested in writing cross
platform applications with Java/JSP/Servlets/Etc.

You now have no reason not to dive in and start checking out java for
web programming. We've made it easy for you to install and deploy Apache
Tomcat on V5R1 - V5R3. Just make sure you read our instructions and make

sure you have the Java JDK 1.5 on your iSeries.

Note: We have only tested on V5R3 so far. However V5R1 and V5R2 should
work if the JDK 1.5 is available.

Download Tomcat from the link listed below, install it and start having
fun learning Java web programming for the iSeries.

Any feedback on our installer to make it easier to use would be
appreciated.
