Aaron I created a quick report. The last run had 29 tables with 987539 rows. The complete replication completed in 11 minutes 17 seconds 375 milliseconds. I don't have a "changes only" update working yet. It is a work-in-progress. Overall I'm very pleased with Derby. The only two SQL syntax changes I had to make were using RTRIM instead of TRIM and stop using EXCEPTION JOIN and use WHERE NOT EXISTS instead. Interesting concept. Then I am assuming they go through a "syncing" process once back in the office? How much of the data in the tables do you bring down onto their laptops? I replicate some iSeries DB2 tables to Derby. The user can then take his laptop and access the data without a network connection. Let me know if you want more information.
