I have also had trouble trying to re-init an existing connection. I ran
into a similar locking condition to what you described.

In my case if a connection object fails for any reason I create a new 400
connection.

subject: Strange issue when re-establishing a dropped toolbox
                 connection

A colleague of mine is experiencing some difficulties. His
question is below.

--------

Hello all,

In a Java server application, I create a connection to the
AS/400 by initializing an AS400 object using the toolbox.
The AS/400 kills the connection once a day. When the
connection is killed it throws a "connection dropped
unexpectedly" exception. I catch the exception and try to
re-connect so that the program automatically connects back
to the AS/400 after being dropped. But what happens is
that when the connection is dropped it pops up this Swing
window message box saying "General Security Error" and
hangs the whole program until you actually log in to the
server and click OK on the window! I want the toolbox to
not pop up a Swing window in this case and not hang the
program.

How can I avoid the toolbox from popping up a Swing window
when the connection is dropped in an AS/400 connection
using the AS400 object?

Thanks
