Why HEX values instead of blanks in AS400 flat file

Hi Folks,

        Further to my earlier post.

        I can see the file is being updated by this sql...even though
I've Function Sequence error.

        insert into OCCTKFUT values ('95100299      C    PQ    200508
2005-08-03                   
        FIN   0FIN20                              100     FMTM-600')  

        However where there are blanks, they appear as hex x'00' instead
of blanks.

        WHY?? And how can I replace hex'00' with blanks in the sql
string.
