Ok, this is kewl I got it working. My next question is, I have two tabs on the body, each containing a form. The selection works great, but I'd like to remember which tab I was on, it's set in the onLoad event on the body. Right now it's hardcoded to tab1. Is it possible for me to determine which tab I was on coming back from the java servlet and reloading the page? here's the script I'm using for sending to my servlet: function changeBulkRecord(form){ var formObject = form var i = formObject.callRecDate.selectedIndex var url = "ChangeGarbageRec?selectedIndex=" + i + "&type=bulk" open(url, target="smiddle") } function changeMetalRecord(form){ var formObject = form var i = formObject.callRecDate.selectedIndex var url = "ChangeGarbageRec?selectedIndex=" + i + "&type=metal" open(url, target="smiddle") } When it returns, i'd love to know if I was on metal or bulk, and if so set the proper tab as current in the onLoad="init()" function. //sets the default display to tab 1 function init(){ tabContents.innerHTML = t1Contents.innerHTML; } <BODY onclick="changeTabs()" onload="init()"> Much appreciate the help. I find this statement interesting, Pete. Why do you consider FreeMarker more MVC than JSP? With a properly written JSP, all the model information is passed via beans, and the JSP simply displays them. Why is this less MVC than FreeMarker? FreeMarker is just a text generator, sort of like XSLT, and as such isn't very smart about things like HTML. You have to actually embed your HTML code in the FreeMarker template, which makes it roughly equivalent to a JSP (except interpreted).
