I don't know about you, Dieter, but I sell a commercially successful Java-based product, and I still like to code my business rules in RPG. It's not a matter of "different mind set" it's a matter of the right tool for the job. Far too many Java programmers think everything should be coded in Java, and it's my opinion that you use the best language for your environment. On the iSeries, that's RPG hands down. Java is better suited to static problem sets. The ability to change the way a Java application works based on database flags is quite limited. What's even more limited is the ability to quickly create a one-off version of a program with a minor logic change, and then execute that by simply changing the library list. OS/400 is SO MUCH MORE productive than the J2EE platform in real world deployment that, unless your primary purpose is "platform independence", there is no way to justify using J2EE for business development.
