Is it possible to use the AIX drivers from Qshell if I can find an AIX
driver?

You can use the type 4 driver from jdbc.postgresql.org; I just wrote a test program to read all the skid numbers from our factory database (Postgres on a Linux box) and ran it on an AS/400. No problem at all, I used pg73jdbc3.jar (since we run Postgres 7.3). You can have my source if you want.
