submit a job in batch from java and then monitor it

Hi,

I have a ILERPG program which i call from java, but
this program when it runs in interactive mode takes
all the resources from AS400 and the system becomes
very slow.
This is what i want to do, i want to submit a batch
job which will call this program ( or call this
program in batch ), and then monitor this job from
java to see the status, once the job is over i will
see further processing.
Can any one give any way of doing it
