It also takes a fairly beefy machine to run it. Most of our users don't
have full PC's, they have WYSE WinTerms connected to a Terminal Server. If
they all ran Java client apps, they'd bring our servers to their knees.
Most of our people don't need such a rich GUI to do their work. Browser
based apps are just fine for them. Those that need more get a PC, but they
are few and far between.

Well, one reason would be software distribution. Why load separate client
software onto each network client when you can load just once on the
server? Makes upgrading a snap and all the client needs is a web browser.
