Question about handling nulls when using getString(int) method

If I have an SQL statement that is as follows: 
SELECT COLA, COLB from TABLE1;

If COLB is null capable and the value of COLB is SQL NULL in row 3 and if I
use getString(2) when I reach the third row, am I supposed to get a null
string back?
