I am currently keying in the IP address of the as/400 I am trying to access (doing this remotely over the internet). Is there a way of putting in an AS/400 name rather than the ip address all the time. I remember in the past using a "host" file which would include the name and IP address of what you where trying to access, but I'm not sure if there is for this.

Java uses the systems host name resolver to convert names to IP addresses ... the routine (gethostbyname, I think) will use the hosts file first then try to use the registered domain name servers.

So, yes, you can put the system's name & IP address in the hosts file ... or, if the host is registered in a DNS, just use that name.
