Just do it that way, you would do it with every database server: use JDBC ore 
something based on JDBC like SQLJ (AS400 has a ANSI pre Compiler for this 
already packaged with OS) or OJB or whatever there is out. There is nothing 
special or unordinary with Java and AS400.
