I can't imagine a CHGPF to a production file during production. I suppose in certain 24/7 environments you might need to do this, but in that case I would have mirrored environments and the ability to switch users from one environment to another dynamically. That way, one environment would always be available for changes on the order of ALTER TABLE. Joe
