Dieter,

I think it is recognized that Java does have it's place. If Java didn't have a
place as a programming language, it wouldn't exist.

Java's place is cross platform development. It's great for that. It was
designed for that. It is also an interpreted language.

It's strengths are also it's weaknesses though. Since it is cross platform it
is not optimized for any particular CPU. Even some of the java compilers only
do a little bit better than the interpreted version.

So, it shouldn't be about Java is faster than X or Y or Z, it should be about,
Java will run on my iseries, on my Linux box, on my Windows Box, on my
refrigerator, etc...

Which language is faster? Any language other than Java. What language is
truly cross platform? No language other than Java. Like any programming
language it is a tool that has it's place.

As someone mentioned, if we really wanted our applications to scream on our
iseries boxes we would be programming in MI. Or C. Instead we use RPG for
native applications, and Java when we want something cross platform.

Regards,

Jim Langston

Sorry Mr. Pluta,

excuse me, I didn't recognize that this is a rpg hardliner mailing list. It's
foolish, that a statement pro java is flame in a java-400l mailing list. And
its foolish, that I have to declare a man, who is teaching java, what is
multithreading, sorry, I won't do again.

Dieter
