Tried 3 things: 1. Use absolute url for target jsp file. This does not work. 2. Have servlet and jsp file in the same web application. (This does not work and it should work!) 3. Use Art's trick: RequestDispatcher rd = getServletContext().getContext("/webapp/mrcps").getRequestDispatcher("error. jsp"); Approach 3 works! Thanks!
