WebSphere default server -- JAVA400-L

I just installed WebSphere 3.5.4 and all
required fixes. Everything is OK, but
the Admin Console fails to detect default
server configuration. It's just not there.
Of course, I can create my own application
servers. Anybody have any idea what it was
I forgot to do?
