Er... Um.... Er.... Dang.... I dunno. 8-).

- Since the simple testcase works on your system, its probably not
  a DB2 or iSeries problem (although it's still conceivable that
  it could be   due to more complex table/data set up, it seems
  less likely).
- Did you try the 'download the newest toolbox driver' suggestion
  for the VAJava user. This will ensure you've got that code using
  a driver free from known defects?

If you do this, and the same behavior occurs, then I'm afraid
that the only reasonable guess I can come up with is that your
code isn't actually doing the same thing as the example or
as we both think its doing, and more analysis is needed to
see what we're missing.
