JDBC & Applets

Apologies in advance if this is a stoopid question, I'm new to this Java
stuff...

I've written a Java Application, which uses JDBC to get some data from an
AS/400, and it works OK.

When I try to run the same code in an Applet, I get a error - "access denied
(java.net.SocketPermission myAS400 resolve)" when testing with AppletViewer.

Is what I'm doing impossible, due to the restrictions on Applets?
If not, what do I need to configure to get it to work?
