Don't you have to use AS/400 Toolbox, so you can identify what system
you're trying to connect before trying to open the text file?  If I use
java.io.readLine(), how will I connect to the system.  The reason behind
the system connection is I like to connect to the system first is I will
able to execute the program remotely and I can debug the program in VAJava.

It's java.io.readLine()

Seriously, if you're reading text from IFS files, you can open them and
read them using the traditional java.io stream classes.
