I have used a data area on the AS400 and when a shutdown request value is
set in the data area, the java program reads it and shuts down.

Subject: Controlled shutdown of a Java "daemon"
I'm running a java program as a daemon process in it's own
subsystem. It is initiated via RUNJVA in a CL program. The job responds to
requests placed on a data queue. It never ends, it justs waits on requests.
So far this is working great, but I am looking for a "nice" way to
shut the thing down. I'd like it to end via a controlled shutdown of the
subsystem (ENDSBS xxxx *CNTRLD). Currently, a controlled end of the
subsystem without a delay time value will cause the subsystem to never end.
I'm hoping there is a way for my java program to check that a
controlled shutdown has been requested so that it can shut itself down in an
orderly fashion and end via a System.exit(0). Any ideas???
