Marco,

I finally found the problem. It turns out that I did not set up my AS/400 to
go to the my DNS server. I had enough host table entries to support the three
devices on this network so I didn't really notice the problem. The short
system name was only defined to the DNS.

Thanks,

David Morris

David

I had the same problem, and the only solution I found was using the DB2 standard
driver.
If someone has a different solution, I would be highly interested.

Subject:  Database connection error

Databaser's,

I have now been trying to locate the cause of this error for two days. On an
AS/400 that I recently set up, I get the following message:

java.sql.SQLException: The application requester cannot establish the
connection.

I only get this error with the toolkit driver
com.ibm.as400.access.AS400JDBCDriver, not with the standard DB2 driver
com.ibm.db2.jdbc.app.DB2Driver.

I have the database host server started, and the *LOCAL database entry set up.
This works from fine from a PC or anything attached to the AS/400, but will not
run directly on this AS/400. I use the following with a bonafide profile and
password (it does work from another computer):
Class.forName("com.ibm.as400.access.AS400JDBCDriver").newInstance();
con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:as400://gobuggy", "PROFILE",
"PASSWORD");

Thanks,

David Morris
