Hmmm... I THINK that in this particular case, a Connection class that is defined in the UNNAMED package would probably cause the error you're seeing. Why? 1) java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection() will ALWAYS return a java.sql.Connection object. 2) Since you've imported java.sql.* in your source, an Connection declaration that is not package qualified you shouldn't need a cast. Instead, your Connection object reference will ALWAYS: A) be a java.sql.Connection, the only Connection class declared or imported OR B) If you've got another Connection class in a different package, you will get an ambiguous class reference error. If the other Connection class is in the unnamed package you could get this error. Did you define or can you find another definition for Connection in the VA repository? (probably the unnamed package). That class is causing you problems. Fully qualify the Connection object as a java.sql.Connection object or get rid of the other Connection class.
